Lesson #2: The Sick and The Afflicted

Dear Jeanie,

This past two weeks our house has been full of sickies.  Nothing too miserable I must say, but having sick kids is never fun.  One night when I was up with the baby coughing, and feeling so sorry for her, I of course thought of you.  Nothing heals the heart, or makes your sickness go away faster than Mom.

I kept thinking of one specific night when I was little.  I woke up on the bottom bunk-bed with green bean throw up all down my pajamas.  I am sure you woke up to me crying.  You gently took my pj's off, got me in the tub, told me I was going to be okay, found a trusty bowl, and put me back to bed.  I don't remember all the words that were said from you, but I do remember the way that you made me feel.

To this day when I get sick, I would love to crawl back in your bed, watch the Price is Right with you, and have some Sprite and crackers on your nightstand.  You have been Nurse Nancy many times to all of us at one point, and still are the one that I call when I have questions about my kids.

Thanks for all of the sleepless nights, the soup, the sprite, the vicks rubs, humidifiers, trips to the Doctors Office, trips to the ER with kidney stones, and especially the hugs, love, and tenderness that you used while you cared for me!

I love you Mom,

Kristin

Lesson #1: Hair and Boobs are NOT Everything!!!

Dear Jeanie,

The other day when you went in for your MRA, you had to take off all your clothes, and even your wig!  The nurses and staff were amazed by you.  You simply stated, "Hair and Boobs are NOT Everything!" You talked to them about your marriage with your sweet husband who still loves you no matter what.  You even joked about crawling into bed with them when it is pitch black so it doesn't matter anyway!

You taught me so many lessons in that simple conversation.  First of all, that you can find humor in the bleakest of circumstances.  Second, that inner beauty is truly everything!  You show this by words and action to all 5 of your daughters, and to your 14 grand-daughters.  How blessed we are to have you!  The world puts so much emphasis on Big boobs and Beautiful hair.  But not you.  You taught us to value TRUE beauty.

The Third thing that you taught me from this simple phone call is that you can be yourself!  You aren't afraid to show anyone who you are, talk about where you came from, or your story!  I love you for that Mom.  Thanks for making me laugh today, and realize that I am Beautiful!!!

Love,

Kristin
Dear Jeanie,

Happy Mother's Day Mom!  The other day I was on the phone with you and you said something that inspired me to create this blog for you!  "Oh Kristin, you would have all survived without me!"  Well, I got thinking about this and every moment of the next day, I found you everywhere.  You were in my hands while I burped my little Lydia, the way that I cooked a fried egg for breakfast, and even in the flowers that I planted in the backyard.

So I simply decided to SHOW you that I couldn't have survived without you.  This blog is dedicated to you!  Each week I am going to post at least one lesson that I have learned from you!  52 ways in which I was changed by you!  Each year I try to express to you how grateful I am to you by writing you a love note on Mother's Day.  But this year will be different.  You will have 52 letters or more that let you know that I couldn't have done it without you, and that I will always need my Mom!

Love,
Kristin
